Why I Work at Knobelsdorff: Meet Aiman

Posted by: Brittney Boe on Jan 25

I'd like to introduce you to Aiman, one of our Electrical Design Engineers. Aiman is responsible for developing and designing power distribution processes and lighting processes for the projects we work on. Additionally, she lends her talents to editing plans for our electricians and helping out any way she can.

Aiman joined the Knobelsdorff team in the summer of 2017 with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. Her education and experience, combined with her strong work ethic and learning capabilities, have quickly made Aiman a valuable member of the Knobelsdorff team.

Since she's been with us just over half a year, I wanted to check in and see how things are going. And when I asked her to highlight her experiences so far, here's what she shared.

It's A Family Environment

Why I Work at Knobelsdorff: Meet AimanWhen she thinks back on the entry-level engineer jobs MN has to offer, Aiman is glad to have found Knobelsdorff. In her previous work experience, Aiman worked for a large company where she spent all of her working hours behind a desk, and a lot of the time she felt more like a number than an individual.

"I like that Knobelsdorff is smaller and family-owned. It really does feel like everyone is family. I received a very warm welcome, and I never felt judged because of the things that I didn't know. And I had a lot to learn and I'm still learning new things today."

There are Opportunities to Grow Skills

Having come from a very corporate setting, Aiman enjoys having opportunities to stretch and grow her skill set. "Knobelsdorff provides the hands-on experience I didn't get in college or at my first job. It's nothing like a standard, structural business where you just do one thing and you have to do it perfect. Here, I'm strengthening my skills in the field and seeing the impact of my work on a large scale."

Beyond the work environment, KEI makes a point to invest in resources and training for all employees. Aiman recently completed training in a new software: AutoCAD electrical 2018. "It's nice to be up to date with the newest software requirements, completing AutoCAD designer jobs with the newest versions of software is definitely the way to go."

The Work is Rewarding

At Knobelsdorff, no one shies away from hard work. Aiman sees the project managers, along with KEI's owner, working side by side with everybody on site. It's inspiring to see leadership that's willing to dig in and work to get a job done:

"When you see how hard everyone works, it makes you want to work harder, too. You can just feel that everyone is working toward the same goal and it motivates you to work as well as you can. It shifts that level of commitment you bring to your work. When you compare what it's like here to what it's like sitting in a cubicle in an office, the difference is everything."
